ABOUT THE LIBRARY
HISTORY OF THE LIBRARY
The Stewart County Public Library has a rich history of growth and service to the Stewart County, Tennessee community. Since its humble beginnings in 1942 in a small courthouse room, the library has continually expanded to meet the needs of its patrons. By the 1960s, it had moved to a larger space in the new courthouse, reflecting its growing importance in the community. The library's first dedicated building, a 2,000 square foot facility, was constructed in 1985, but with the community's increasing demand for resources and space, a new 7,000 square foot building was completed in 2001. This modern facility remains the library’s current home. In 2014, a pavilion was added, creating a welcoming outdoor space where visitors can access Wi-Fi, study, read, or simply enjoy each other's company, enhancing the library’s role as a community hub.
